Central Iowa 4th of July Weather: 100 Degrees?

Independence Day will not provide freedom from the hot, hot, hot weather.

It's nice to tell you that you can expect a comfortable 78 degrees in central Iowa for the Fourth of July, with only the slightest chance of rain looming.

That's the good news.

The bad news: 78 is the projected low temperature.

The projected high: 98 -- and triple-digits aren't out of the question.

Projected sweat level: Buckets.

We suppose that's better than the Sunday forecast, which calls for a high of 96 but with scattered thunderstorms in the area.

Look for 98 and sunny on Monday before things cool down for a day -- all the way to 96 on Tuesday, with no chance of rain, says the National Weather Service.
