Ankeny Celebrates the Arts: This and More in Ankeny's Five Things for Friday

Here's what is going on in Ankeny today and other tidbits for Friday, May 4.

 

1) Hershey's Track & Field Games are Tonight

The Ankeny Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Hershey's National Track & Field Games, will hold a local meet on Friday. While the entrance deadline has passed, spectators can go to see the best in area youth compete. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.

2) Ankeny Celebrates the Arts at Prairie Ridge Church

The Ankeny Art Center, Ankeny Community Chorus and Prairie Ridge Church welcome you to a local artists exhibit and a performance by the Ankeny Community Chorus. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

    3) ACA Spring Concert is Tonight

    The Ankeny Christian Academy will hold its spring instrumental concert tonight at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.

    4) Gas Prices

    Skipping town today? Here's a short roundup of a couple of the cheapest places in Ankeny to get gas right now, according to IowaStateGasPrices.com.

    • Casey's General Store, (302 S. Ankeny Blvd.), $3.56 per gallon (regular)
    • Hy-Vee Gas, (414 N. Ankeny Blvd.), $3.43 per gallon (mid-grade)

    5) The Weather

    They summer-style weather continues with some clouds and possibly an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon, according to weather.com. A few storms may be severe. High around 85. Winds from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Thirty percent chance of rain. Warm overnight with a low of 64 and a 50 percent chance of rain.
