"Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten": This and More in Ankeny's Five Things for Friday

Here's what is going on in Ankeny today and other tidbits for Friday, March 16.

 

1) Still a Few Hours Left to Vote

Where do you feel is the best place in the metro to celebrate St. Paddy's Day? If you have an opinion on this, you’ll want to participate in Patch’s Best Place to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day contest. The poll closes at 9 a.m. today.

It's not too late to get Ankeny in on the action. If there's a great place in town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, leave your vote by commenting on the poll. Everything counts!

2) Friday Night Fish Fry

The Knights of Columbus will sponsor a Lenten fish fry from 5:30-8 p.m. tonight in the multi-purpose room of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. A free-will offering will be suggested, but there are suggested costs based on food selection.

3) Ankeny Christian Academy Student Play Debuts Tonight

Ankeny Christian Academy will kickoff its student play, “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten," at 7 p.m. tonight at the school. Two performances also will be held tomorrow at 2 and 7 p.m. The cost to attend the show is $3. Tickets may be purchased between 7:45-8:15 a.m. and 3-3:20 p.m. at the ACA office or in the lobby before the show.

1) Hawks to Face Sioux City East in State Semifinals

The top-ranked Ankeny Hawks remain undefeated as they head to The Well this afternoon to take on 20-3 Sioux City East in the Class 4A boys' state basketball semifinals.

Can't make it today's game? No worries. This live blog will keep you posted by providing up-to-the-minute coverage of the action, courtesy of those who do attend.

2) Alzheimer's Support Group to Meet Tonight

New Horizons Adult Day Center is hosting an Alzheimer's Support Group on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the group's location in the Neveln Center.The support group is free and open to the public. For more information on this group, please call volunteer facilitator Polly Johnston at 515-440-2722.

3) On Deck for Tomorrow

The Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a legislative coffee session at the Neveln Center, located at 406 S.W. School St., from 9-11 a.m. The coffee will feature Representative Kevin Koester, Senator Jack Whitver and Polk County Supervisor E.J. Giovannetti.

4) Gas Prices

5) The Weather

Today will be mostly sunny with intervals of clouds throughout the day, but our warm temps aren't going anywhere. The high today is forecast to be in the upper 70s. Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies and a low near 59 degrees.
