Five Things for Wednesday in Ankeny: Gold, Coats, Bullets and More
Here's what is going on in Ankeny today and other tidbits for Dec. 7.
1) Coat and Gold Drive
UPLIFT Ankeny will be sponsoring a Coat and Gold Drive Wednesday at Coldwell Banker in Ankeny. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., individuals may drop off new and used coats or other winter clothing, which will be donated to the United Way. People may also bring in unwanted gold, silver and platinum items for cash on the spot.
2) Ribbon Cutting for Anani Salon
The Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting this afternoon for Anani Salon and Spa. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will give the public a chance to see what Anani has to offer the community.
3) New Display at Historical Society
The Ankeny Area Historical Society will host a grand opening of its Des Moines Ordnance Plant display today at 5 p.m. The display shows how the plant changed the landscape of Ankeny, the construction of the plant, the workers, the making of .30 and .50 caliber bullets and much, much more. Don't miss it!
4) Today's Little-Known Fact
Today marks the 70th anniversary of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, which launched the United States into World War II.
On a lighter note, today also is National Cotton Candy Day.
5) The Weather
Today we'll see partly cloudy skies mixed in with some sunshine. It will be slightly warmer today than the past couple days with the high expected to be in the mid-30s. The overnight low should be around 20 degrees.
