The weather service says the thunderstorms could hit the area after 1 p.m. today.
Sustained south winds of up to 33 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 55 mph.
The chance of rain was put at 50 percent.
The forecast for tonight calls for the wind to lessen a bit, but with the same strong gusts expected.
