New Ankeny Art Center Exhibit Debuts Today: This and More in Ankeny's Five Things for Friday
Here's what is going on in Ankeny today and other tidbits for Friday, June 1.
1) AYP New Member Luncheon is Today
The Ankeny Young Professionals will hold their new member lunch today starting at 12 p.m. at Okoboji Grill in Ankeny. For any new members of the group, come and learn what you're becoming a part of!
2) New Exhibits at the Ankeny Art Center Debut Today
The Ankeny Art Center will debut two new exhibits today. Works by artist Shawn Palek will be displayed in the main gallery, while Art-A-Holics and No Longer Anonymous will be in the side gallery.
For the past 20 years, Palek has been creating one-of-a-kind airbrushed artwork. Specializing in realism, Palek paints a variety of subjects ranging from portraiture to animals to graphics. His artwork can be found on canvases, clothing, motorcycles and even bodies. Palek currently teaches at DMACC.
The Art Center opens at 9 a.m. today.
3) Take the Little Ones to Tot Time This Morning
Take the kids to Tot Time at the library today. Tot Time is a time set aside for kids and moms/caregivers to gather, play and get to know one another. Tot Time is held in the library meeting room and begins at 9:30 a.m.
4) On Deck for Tomorrow
Set your alarms early, Ankeny, because tomorrow is the Ankeny Fire Department pancake breakfast! From 7-11 a.m. at the main headquarters, members of the department will serve pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Ankeny Fire Department Association projects, including the purchase of display cabinets and window treatments for the fire museum.
5) The Weather
Today will be mostly sunny with a few clouds in the sky and a high temperature around 74 degrees. Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies and a low near 54 degrees.
