Patch Poll: Will Ron Paul's Supporters Help or Hurt Mitt Romney in the Coming Election?
Ron Paul supporters have picked up some delegates, including an impressive number in Iowa, heading to the Republican National Convention. But will this support for Paul disrupt Mitt Romney from building a winning coalition of Republicans?
Texas Congressman Ron Paul has amassed an impressive amount of Republican state delegates, including 23 out of 28 in Iowa who will attend the GOP national convention.
Is this good news or bad news for Republicans?
The Paul supporters, many of them proclaiming they are a part of the Liberty Movement, say they are working to move the Republican party toward the Congressman's values of fiscal conservatism and the end of foreign intervension.
Despite their promises to fall in behind Romney at the convention, Patch's recent Red Iowa political survey found that Paul supporters in Iowa are still not sold on Romney as a candidate.
So, will this division between Paul supporters and other Republicans hurt Mitt Romney in Iowa, one of the battleground states that it is critical for him to win? Or is this just a group of passionate conservatives trying to lobby for their beliefs who will come home to vote for Romney in the end?
Let us know in our poll and in the comments sections.

As a Ron Paul supporter, no, I do not believe many other RP supporters will vote for Romney. The reason for me is that Romney has not and can not differentiate himself from Obama. They (and most establishment Republicans) are almost indistinguishable except for the (D) or (R) by their name. Personally I don't want either party to be able to get their agenda through. I'll probably vote Obama for pres and support the republican congress. I'd much rather them sit in gridlock than pass any of their moronic spending and pork bills.

By the time Romney loses, we will be in Galt's Gulch laughing our asses off. We tried, Ron. I will never vote for a candidate that attempts to win the nomination through media marginalization and literal physical strong-arming. A vote for Obama or Romney is a vote for Goldman Sachs/J.P. Morgan. They may rule us like kings (or the mob), but I sure as hell won't condone it.

As another Ron Paul supporter. I also say No, I do not believe in Romney nor Obama as they remain the same agents for Wall Street.
The established RNC group refuses to embrace the Paul agenda and have ended up with an anyone but Obama or Paul for President attitude.
While the Paul message of honoring the Constitution is the fairest and the best for everyone and the Nation. it is appearing the next best person to continue that message for the candidacy would be Governor Gary Johnson!

As a devout Ron Paul supporter. I would say No. Our message and views on issues are extremely different from Romney and the establishment Republicans.
We supporters have gone against the establishment Republicans all this time. We see no cause to stop. As Ron Paul supporters, we DO NOT fall in line.
I agree with Brandx. The only alternative (who is on the ballot) to Ron Paul would be former NM Governor Gary Johnson.
Romney does not demonstrate any acceptance any of Ron Paul's ideals, nor do I think he would be inclined to do so.

I don't think that most of Ron Paul's supporters will back Mitt Romney because they are supporting Ron Paul because he is the one candidate in the Republican field who supports the message of freedom, liberty, and limited constitutional government. That is what most politically active people don't understand when it comes to Ron Paul and his supporters. It's about the message...not the man.

I would expect Ron Paul supporters to continue work for reform in the GOP and elsewhere and to refine their message into a compelling program for less government by 2016. You just need to look up "voter fraud Ron Paul" on youtube to see the kind of people Romney has working for his campaign all over the country. There can be no love for Romney and perhaps four more years of Obama enacting neocon policies like the NDAA will sicken enough democrats and Romney's inability to win accompanied by the obvious moral malaise in the Republican Party will prompt a rethink in their ranks. In short, 4 years of Obama followed by a libertarian Republican would be better than 8 years of Romney. Of course Paul supporters will want to avoid blame for Romney's inevitable defeat.

Know this though...Romney can't win without the support of us Ron Paul backers, and here in Ohio, I will be writing the good Doctor in if need be. And if you want to blame me for a GOP loss, go right ahead! I will gladly claim responsibility for doing my part in keeping him out of the White House. I hear you now saying, "so you'd rather have Obummer in there?" Of course not! But that very question presupposes that there's actually a difference between the two. Romney could have run on the Democratic ticket and he wouldn't have even had to change his rhetoric. The GOP needs some plastic surgery to get it looking like it did back in its glory days, and there's only one Doctor for the job!

As a Ron Paul Supporter, I will never vote for the lesser of two evils no matter how much the mainstream pushes the idea that you don't' have a choice. The truth be told Ron Paul already won he won the minds and hearts of the citizens of the world its the information that is being pushed though the outlets that won't admit the truth. He won all of the debates but they wouldn't even use there own polls because it showed Ron Paul winning when he only got the maximum of 2 minutes to speak. We watch, we learn, we educate, we share, and most importantly we are passionate about Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. There is no other candidate that has a record like Ron Paul, besides the fact that Romney and Obama are backed by Goldman Sachs and big corporations where Ron Paul gets his funding by the people. There is really no differance with the republicans and democrats as their policies have brought the country where it is today. They will llie or do anything to maintain the big government status quo. Let us not forget that voting machines as they are now can be programed to give results as needed and not record the true vote requested by everyday voters. You cannot convince me that this has not been done this go around. Ron Paul must make up his mind not to support his son Rand as I believe Rand has become part of the problem. Everyone has worked their tails off for Ron Paul and he must follow through with the leadership he has given us. Period.

I voted other because it all depends on Romney and how his campaign decides to respond. His views and policies are the same as Obama's in all the important issues, like foreign policy, both want to engage in war with Iraq, both supported and facilitated the massive bailouts, both supported the NDAA, the extrajudicial assassination of American citizens without due process, the use of drones that sometimes kill the bad guys but often kill a bunch of innocent people, both want to continue the unsustainable spending. I really don't see the liberty people coming over to Romney's camp, Can you?

I think Mitt could make a move to court us Paul supporters but i don't beleive he'll actually do it. If he doesn't, Obama wins because w/o Paul supporters there is no enthusiasm. If he does make a play it will have to be a big one (VP pick, BIG platform motion that Mitt actually backs in debates) even that won't sway the majority of us but a solid effort may swing a few people who are terrified of Obama. Either way the US will continue this downward trend for another 4 years.

It depends on whether Romney is willing to credibly promise something substantial enough to get Ron's supporters on board. Right now it looks to many that whether you vote for Obama or Romney, we'll get more bailouts, spending and wars. Romney has to do something dramatic to tilt them his way. They'll never embrace him as his vision of government is so dramatically different, but if he gives them a specific, credible promise straight off the liberty agenda he might get many of their votes. Audit the Fed? Clearly swear he will ask Congress for declaration before starting a new war? Submit a budget to Congress that cuts spending by at least $1? Something like that. But I doubt it, particularly the last one.

No. Why would people like me who are the true conservatives and true Republicans do that? We believe in smaller government, obeying the Constitution, no policing the world, stop killing little brown children with drones, audit the Federal Reserve and eventually end it, reducing the debt, etc... We see that the monetary system is moving wealth from the middle-class and the poor to the rich by the inflation tax. We are the educated ones who know that the Keynsians were, and will always be, wrong. Why would we vote for a Wilsonian Progressive? Why would be support a spend-happy, kill-happy Neocon Plastic-man who would serve the banksters and not the people? No thanks, I'll stick with liberty.

The person, Ron Paul, is not the issue. The issue is that the GOP wants the worst possible President (Romney or Obama) to solve America's critical problems. And they want these people so much that they see nothing wrong with lying, cheating, or stealing to get their way. Until the GOP nominates candidates who can persuade me that they will try to follow the original intent of the Constitution, they will receive no support from me.

As a Ron Paul supporter both this election and the previous there is no way I would support Mitt Romney or Barrack Obama. Does anyone really know what Romney would do specifically to fix anything? Where's the plan? Obama has no clue to what the Constitution says and he is supposed to be a Constitutional scholar. The fact that he has put the same criminals that were responsible for the economic collapse in positions of high regard in his administration should be alarming to anyone that calls themselves American. Not to mention NDAA, Statements saying that he will chose which immigration laws he will enforce and the fact that he is clueless as to what makes an economy prosper. Read Ron Paul's book "Pillars of Prosperity". It clearly lays out what people need to know about fixing the economy.

Like most other Paul supporters here, this is about principles, and our constitutional liberties. Romney openly deferred comment to Dr. Paul as the 'constitutionalist' at one of the debates. (Stupid move). There is no difference between the two 'frontrunners' with both being backed by G. Sachs, and both supporting NDAA. Seriously, ANYONE supporting the NDAA is committing treason! And yes, after all the cheating done by the GOP as well. For all the reasons stated above, I will NEVER vote Obamitt, neither one! No One But Paul 2012!

I will almost certainly vote for Gary Johnson this time around, and hope that the GOP, after their inevitable crushing loss in November, will accept the liberty message in 2016. It's not too early to think about it now. Judge Napolitano 2016!

I have supported Ron Paul since 2007. NO - I do not think most Ron Paul supporters will support Romney because the Republican Party has been so underhanded during the primary. A man who wins fair and square wins admiration, even from his enemies. However, a man who wins by tricks or deceit wins only contempt - this is Romney’s position - the GOP did it to themselves. For myself I have not yet decided what to do.
I would never vote for Gary Johnson, the right to life must be first among all rights or we will lose all rights. This is enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. Those who will trample on life will easily trample on property and all other liberties.
I would never vote for Obama. He is a communist who wishes to reduce us to slavery.
I would never vote for Santorum or Gingrich - these men must never be given the reins of power. Fortunately, they are out.
Although right now I expect to write in Ron Paul, I may consider trying to defeat Obama, - Romney will be better than Obama as far as liberty is concerned. Although Romney is bad, the notion that he is identical with Obama is simply wrong. Besides, Romney will, of necessity, have some ties limited government factions, Obama will have none.

It's no longer a matter of liberal versus conservative or Republican versus Democrat. It is statists versus anti-statists. That being said, I'm having trouble resisting the "Anything's better than Obama" idea. I can say I wrote in Ron Paul in 2008, but I really don't know what to do this time. I could go Gary Johnson, Ron Paul write in, or Romney depending on how I look at it. Romney is slightly better than Obama, and I did not feel that way about McCain. Reality check for all RP supporters who are choosing to vote for Johnson or Obama....I am with you on the principles and stances Ron Paul stands for as I too am really more libertarian and relate most with the parties values.....however, let's be pragmatic and understand that as much as we might not love Romney or the republican party at this point, we caN not afford another four years of Obama values, decisions to avoid abiding by the constitution, we have to do whatever it takes to get him out even though Romney might not appear to be that much better. Let's not kid ourselves, he is definitely no Obama and anything slightly more to the right or understanding of what the constitution reall stands for, we need to d whatever it takes to get this idiot out of the white house. Ask yourself this, aside from any candidate feeling the need to feed their ego t be president, why would Romney put himself and his family thru all the bs of running for president if he truly didn't want to make tho ga better... People who support Ron Paul do so for his policies. Mitt Romney supports the massive taxpayer funded bailouts both TARP and Obama's Stimulous, Mitt Romney and Obama supported the NDAA and the indefinite detention of American citizens without due process. Mitt Romney passed the blueprint for Obamacare and now wants to deny it. Mitt Romney supports invading Iran, and getting us into yet another unconstitutional, undeclared war. Ron Paul on the other hand has consistently voted against undeclared wars, bank bailouts, and the unconstitutional mandate created by Obama's affordable care act. Ron Paul has been right about the war in Iraq, the impending financial crisis in 2008, the NDAA, and is now warning about another war in Iran. So taking all this into consideration, NO. Ron Paul supporters will not vote for Romney. They'll either write in Ron Paul's name (as I myself plan on doing) or they'll vote for Gary Johnson, or they'll just stay at home. Mitt Romney cannot count on us.

This Ron Paul supporter and registered Republican of twenty years has absolutely no intention of voting for Mitt Romney. He is too much like Obama in all that he stands for and I can not vote for him in a clear conscience. After all the Romney campaign and the RNC have done to silence Ron Paul and our support, I will also be leaving the GOP , registering as a Libertarian and never voting for another Republican again unless they are clearly for the constitution and the people, which means I probably won't be voting for many Republicans ever again because the party has been co-opted by neoconservatives and sell outs.
