I hope someone out there has some idea as to how critical our national debt really is. It can sink the ship. Here is an easy exercise for any reader to do - takes just a few minutes :
1 - assume our debt stops when it reaches $16 trillion ( it has already passed this point, but just for illustration purposes, assume it stopped at that exact moment )
2 - Let's say we start paying the debt off now at a rate of $1000 / second
3 - calculate how long ( how many years ) it will take to pay the debt down to zero.
The answer will astound you . Mr Bowles is right ..... this situation is critical.
