Weird Iowa: Stuffed Anteaters, Ferrets for John Mellencamp, Nuisance Geese and Ghost of Michele Bachmann
This week we feature stuffed animals, John Mellencamp-fan animals and nuisance animals.
You never know where our Weird Iowa feature will lead week-to-week. This week we've landed on several stories of weird animals.
Let's start in Cedar Falls, where University of Northern Iowa's museum is slated to close at the end of the month. Cedar Falls Patch Local Editor Alison Gowans captured photos of some of the "weird, wonderful and nostalgic" items in the collection, including many of the interesting-looking animals that are part of Iowa's history.
Here's one more from Cedar Falls, where readers are posting photos of their pets, some of them pretty funny.
Down in Iowa City, we find two ferrets that are apparently fans of John Mellencamp. Check out Iowa City Patch Local Editor Stephen Schmidt's video of Jack and Diane, two American ferrets growing up in the Heartland.
You know the saying, "Don't feed the bears"? Marion Patch Local Editor Scott Raynor reports that same wisdom is being applied to nuisance geese.
We aren't solely focused on animals. Let's end this week's edition with a ghost story.
Many Iowans remember the campaign of Michele Bachmann from Iowa Caucus season. Well, it seems like vestiges of her candidacy to bring Biblical values to public policy have reappeared, gathering behind Waukee pastor Jeff Mullen, who is running for the Iowa Senate.

I live on Lake Burton in North Ga and have tried everything. The only thing that worked for me was this product made by Edgewater Fencing. It was very inexpensive, humane and super easy to install. The people were also great to deal with!!
