It is happening! A few days ago, Iowa Physicians for Social Responsibility (IPSR), a local non-profit that is taking donations on my behalf for the August 2012 International Peace Bike Tour in Japan, told me that enough funds have been raised that we could purchase my plane ticket! I have a roundtrip e-ticket to Japan in my inbox ready for August!
Japan offers a venue to discuss nonproliferation, peace, and our shared environment
In less than 2 months I will be with 40+ activists from around the world to bike 500 km from Nagasaki to Hiroshima. We will meet locals, speak with politicians, give media interviews, and organize public demonstrations along the way. The two-week bike tour will lead up to one week of conferencdes, including the 20th World Congress. I can't wait to to learn from others and bring it home to the U.S.
Progress is taken one step at a time
I am halfway to my goal to raise $6,730 to support four participants from developing countries and myself! I still need to raise over $3,000 to support the participation fees and needed biking equipment. With one a month and a half left to fundraise, I hope to have continued support and meet my goal in time! Also, I'd like to add a big thank you to everyone, including local businesses and organizatiosn, who have already supported me along this journey! I couldn't do it without commnity support!
