With the first official day of fall near, now is the perfect time to plan fall activities, whether it’s with your Little, friends or family!
- Apple Orchards & Pumpkin Patches: Central Iowa is filled with many orchards and patches to visit. Check out the Iowa Orchard; they offer tours, hay rides, and local produce like apples, pumpkins, squash and gourds. Willis Family Orchard offers “U-Pick Pumpkins” and “Apple & Pumpkin Fest 2012.”
- Sporting Events: Brush up on your cheering skills & head to a high school or college athletic event. Check out Drake’s athletics schedule or one of the many high schools’ schedules in the area.
- Farmers Market: Visit one of Des Moines’ many farmers markets and pick in-season produce to cook a tasty meal or treat! What a great way to activity to share with your Little! We think you should try pumpkin mac and cheese (a twist on a classic!), pumpkin cookies, or bite-size apple pies. Let us know your favorite fall recipe!
- Hiking: Enjoy the cooler weather and beautiful fall colors by hiking. Des Moines offers a lot of trails! Be sure to pack water and snacks, and wear comfortable shoes!
We want to know what you enjoy doing during fall -- let us know!
