DESCRIPTION:The Ankeny Area Historical Society will be holding its monthl
 y open house on May 6\, 2:00 p.m. &ndash\; 4:00 p.m. at their two museum
 s located at 301 SW Third St.\nWe have two new displays for you to see. 
 Our store display and &ldquo\;The Des Moines Ordnance Plant&rdquo\; disp
 lay.&nbsp\;&nbsp\; The store display shows what a country store was like
 \, along with photos of early stores in Uptown.&nbsp\; Our other new dis
 play\, &ldquo\;The Des Moines Ordnance Plant&rdquo\; tells the story of 
 the building of the plant\, its workers and the effect it had on central
  Iowa.&nbsp\; Come learn how many families were displaced from their far
 ms with as little as 48 hours notice so the plant could be built.&nbsp\;
  How 35 train cars filled with cartridges were shipped out daily.&nbsp\;
  Also\, as part of the display\, listen to interviews of some of the peo
 ple that worked at the plant. You will find these displays and others di
 splays and artifacts that bring the area&rsquo\;s past to life in our ce
 ntury-old 2-story farmhouse and barn.
