A Native American Pow Wow will be held on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus on June 2.

 The DMACC Diversity Commission will be hosting the Central Iowa Circle of First Nation’s Pow Wow to be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 2 in the DMACC Ankeny Campus Bldg. #5 Gymnasium.

The following tribes will be represented:

·         Omaha

·         Winnebago

·         Rosebud Sioux

·         Lakota

·         Meskwaki

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, there are more than 11,000 Native Americans now living in Iowa.   

Drumming and dancing will be taking place throughout the afternoon.  The event is free and the public is encouraging to attend any or all of the Pow Wow.

Des Moines Area Community College is a two to three-year public community college, serving the city of Des Moines and the region of Central Iowa. Offering associates degrees in a variety of disciplines, from English Literature and the sciences to Farm and Food Science, the DMACC is on the semester system and also offers online courses. A military-friendly school, DMACC also offers work study and other scholarship opportunities. According to its website, DMACC is the most ethnically and culturally diverse campus in the Iowa higher education system.
