Ankeny and Des Moines Metro Weekend Events: 'The Maginot Line', ‘Love Letters,’ Wine and Food Showcase, Second City, plus Tosh.0 and Kenny Chesney Tickets on Sale

Time, dates and ticket information for what's going on in Ankeny and the metro, including Iris DeMent, plus upcoming Miranda Lambert and Tracy Morgan shows.

There’s plenty to do in Ankeny in the days ahead, and if you want to travel into to Des Moines and around the metro, there’s plenty to do there, too.

"The Maginot Line": The Ankeny Community Theatre will present its performance of "The Maginot Line" this weekend. Shows will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., as well as a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults.

METRO

Singer Iris DeMent: Released “Sing the Delta,” her first original album in 16 years, in November. In it, she drew on her upbringing in the Arkansas Delta.

Wine and Food Showcase: Raise a glass at the Des Moines Metro Opera Wine and Food Showcase. VIP ticket holders receive early access at 4:30 p.m.

Kenny Chesney Tickets on Sale: The country superstar will play in concert April 27 at Wells Fargo Arena. Tickets are $22-$79.50 and go on sale Friday throughwww.dahlstickets.com.

Chesney’s tour is called “No Shoes Nation,” and includes the Eli Young Band and Kasey Musgraves.

'Love Letters': Spend Valentine’s Day at a performance of the Pulitzer Prize-winning romantic comedy “Love Letters” presented by Repertory Theater of Iowa at the historic Salisbury House. The perform­ance will benefit the 2013 production of Shakespeare on the Lawn.

Five By Design's Club Swing: From the frenetic-paced opening of Benny Goodman's "Bugle Call Rag" to the show's finale of Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing," Club Swing celebrates the songs, events and personalities that defined American popular culture during the Swing era.

Daniel Tosh Tickets on Sale: Tosh.0's Daniel Tosh will visit the Iowa State Center  in Ames June 4. Tickets to his The June Gloom Tour go on sale Friday. He will present two shows one at 7 p.m. and another at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday June 4 at Stephen's Auditorium.

Des Moines Social Club: The group’s in-house theater company produces its first musical this weekend. “The Last Five Years” is about a New York couple whose stories unfold in opposite directions — one chronologically, the other in reverse.

“Good People”: The play about a determined middle-aged woman who can’t seem to escape Boston’s rundown South End, opens this weekend at the Civic Center’s Stoner Theater.

Tracy Morgan – Excuse My French: The former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” star brings his comedy tour to Des Moines in March.

Jon Bon Jovi: The New Jersey rocker and his band will return to Des Moines on April 14 with the "Because We Can" Tour at the Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines. Ticket prices start at $19.50; tickets for the Iowa show went on sale Dec. 3 through dahlstickets.com.

Taylor Swift: Country star Taylor Swift returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Aug. 1. No word yet on ticket prices or an on-sale date. The event is listed on Swift's website but is not listed on Ticketmaster or its partner website. In nearby Kansas City, MO tickets range from $30 to $85.

Justin Bieber: Pop star Justin Bieber will also make an appearance at the Wells Fargo Arena on July 7. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets range from $40 to $95.
