Branstad Present at AMP it Up Rally for new Market and Pavilion

AMP it Up begins one hour after bicycle safety and rodeo program.

Gov. Terry Branstad will be on hand when Ankeny formally kicks off its β€œAMP It UP” fundraising rally for the Ankeny Market and Pavilion 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parkview Middle School.

Organizers for the project hope to raise $1.5 million to build two covered open-air pavilions near the trailhead for the High Trestle Trail to hold the weekly farmer's market as well as community and cultural events. The area would include parking for 120 cars and public restrooms as well.

Speakers in addition to Branstad include Rick Hermann, a former councilman, Mayor Gary Lorenz and Carl Voss, of the Des Moines Bicycle Collective.

Approximately $500,000 of the necessary funds have already been committed.

The event, which is takes place at the Parkview Middle School will follow the 6 p.m. bicycle safety and rodeo program at the Ankeny Fire Station at First and Ash streets.
