Patch Picks: Five Ankeny Breakfast Spots

Whether you need a full-fledged meal or just a cup of java to get your day started, a breakfast to suit your taste is waiting for you at any of these Ankeny spots.

Some sat you're either a breakfast person or you're not.  

If you are, you have some great options in Ankeny when it comes to finding your first meal of the day.  Whether you want a fancy espresso drink, a simple donut, or a full-on farmer's breakfast, you're sure to find just what you're looking for at one of these restaurants.

1. : Breakfast is served all day here, where the options include egg sandwiches, Belgian waffles, oatmeal, bagels and assorted pastries.  Smoothies and coffee drinks also available.  Cafe Diem offers free Wi-Fi and sells locally made artwork.  Cafe Diem is located at 2005 S. Ankeny Blvd.

2. : When only a donut will do, head to 1702 W. First St. for classic glazed and frosted varieties sold individually and by the dozen.  Espresso drinks are on the menu as well.  Daylight Donuts is ppen every morning except Mondays.  

3. : Perfect when you're in the mood for a filling, diner-style meal, Ankeny Cafe is open seven days per week and is located at 310 S. Ankeny Blvd. Sit at the counter or slide into a booth and order up eggs, pancakes, coffee and other classic breakfast favorites.

4. : Pancakes are a long-time breakfast standard - and lucky for you, it doesn't matter what time the mood strikes as IHOP serves a variety of flavorful flapjacks all day long.  Located at 2402 S.E. Delaware Ave., you can stick with the regular buttermilk pancakes or - if you're more adventurous - try the seasonal or dessert flavors. If pancakes aren't your thing, IHOP serves tons of other breakfast favorites. We recommend the omelettes, but be warned - if you order one, you might need someone to roll you to your car.

5. : Whether you’re feeling like something sweet or savory, Village Inn at 1024 E. 1st Street serves up great pies, pancakes, and more.  The restaurant has been in business for over 50 years, giving it plenty of time to perfect the art of a great breakfast.
