Patch Picks: Top 5 Classes to Try Something New

From cooking to crafting to computers, there's always something new to learn through any of these classes in Ankeny.

Going to class doesn't always involve books, notebooks and pencils. There are loads of classes offered in the Ankeny area that allow you to try something new or refine the skills and interests you already have.  

No need to stress about going to these classes - the teachers aren't there to grade you but to help open you up to something different.  Be sure to check each individual website for various class schedules.

1. : Learn new skills you can put to use in the kitchen by taking a culinary workshop or cooking class here.  Don’t worry if you’re a novice in the kitchen or a professional chef - you’re sure to learn some new foodie tricks from instructor Deb Cazavilan.  From pot pies to fruit pies, there’s a variety of classes from which to choose.

2. : Classes are offered for anyone from 4- year-olds to adults.  Whether you’re looking to work on your fitness or learn some self defense moves, Dojo's offers both.  You can try a discounted trial program to test out three classes before signing on to a longer program. 

3. : You may not realize this Ankeny public library offers classes, but it puts on multiple basic computer classes as well as other such as 'Selling on E-bay,' ‘Exploiting Google,’ ‘Search Engine Strategies,’ and more.  Programs for kids are offered as well.

4. Ankeny Art Center: Both children and adult art classes are offered throughout the year.  For adults, they offer yoga as well as an Art Club you can join for $75. The Club gives you open studio time and clay to work on your own ceramic projects.  Class discounts are given to those who are Ankeny Art Center members.  The Ankeny Art Center is ocated at 1520 SW Ordnance Rd.  

5. : This national chain of craft stores is not only full of materials to produce your own do-it-yourself project but they also offer various classes such as sewing and jewelry-making.  Dust off your hot glue gun and scissors and try something new!
