Ankeny in the News: Larson Wins Class 3A Wrestling Title, Prairie Ridge and Parkview Students Perform Plays and More

Trinity Bible College will host the National Christian College Athletic Association North Central Regional Tournaments this weekend at Ray Ulmer Field House in Ellendale, reports the Aberdeen News. The women's semifinals will be Friday with No. 1 North Central University of Minneapolis vs. No. 4 Faith Baptist Bible College at 2 p.m.

Led by Ross Larson and fellow senior Carson Powell, the eighth-ranked Hawks wrestling team placed 12th in Class 3-A with 58.5 points, writes Dan Holm of the Des Moines Register. It was their highest finish since 2003, when Ankeny placed seventh in the team standings.

Ross Larson, a top-ranked wrestler and Ankeny senior, pinned second-ranked Bud Smith of Southeast Polk in 1 minute 21 seconds Saturday night to capture the Class 3-A title at 195 pounds, reports Dan Holm of the Des Moines Register. It was the second straight crown for Larson, who won the Class 2-A title at 189 last year while wrestling for Ballard (Huxley).

Ankeny’s eight 3-point shots Friday night helped the second-ranked Hawks basketball team to a 50-40 victory at No. 7 Waukee in the regular-season finale for both teams, writes Dan Holm of the Des Moines Register.

The Ankeny Hawks hockey club played last weekend on Pink in the Rink Night at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, reports the Des Moines Register. The event was held to raise awareness of breast cancer, with proceeds going to the Life Beyond Breast Cancer support group at the John Stoddard Cancer Center.

The Register also had a few cool photo galleries of the Northview Middle School Reader's Theatre event, as well as the Parkview Middle School and Prairie Ridge Middle School plays.
