State Street to Reopen to Traffic Today: This and More in Ankeny's Five Things for Wednesday

Here is what's going on in Ankeny today and other tidbits for Wednesday, July 11.

1) State Street to Reopen to Traffic Today

According to a release issued by the city of Ankeny, the Northwest State Street widening project has been completed to the point what all four driving lanes can be opened to traffic. New traffic signals at the Northwest 18th Street intersection will also be in operation. Limited paving work including sidewalk ramps and center medians will continue.

This affects the portion of State Street between Northwest 18th and 36th streets.

2) All-City Play Day is Tonight

Whether up in the air or down on the ground, there is something for everyone when Ankeny hosts the fifth annual Ankeny All-City Play Day on Wednesday, July 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Wagner Parks will be transformed into playful hubs of fun with a mix of activity stations for play-minded people of any age. Admission is free and no registration is necessary.

3) On Deck for Tomorrow

The Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Business After Hours at the SummerFest Leisure Garden, located at Prairie Ridge Sports Complex, tomorrow from 4-6 p.m. The event is sponsored by Vintage Hills. New to this year’s Leisure Garden is a drink stand offering Limearitas.

4) Gas Prices

Need to fill up before your morning commute? Here's a couple of the cheapest places to get gas in Ankeny right now, according to IowaStateGasPrices.com.

Today will be mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds. There is also a chance for a stray thunderstorm in the evening hours. The high today should be near 88 degrees. Tonight, expect a mostly clear sky and a low near 64 degrees.
