Ankeny Miracle Park Committee's Activity Station at All-City Play Day: Adaptive Sports

The Ankeny Miracle Park/Miracle League Field and All-Inclusive Playground Project Steering Committee will host an activity station during the All-City Play Day event on Wednesday evening, July 10th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

An 'adaptive sports' station will provide assistance and modifications for participants with special needs; in addition, those who do not have a special need will be invited to close their eyes, use their non-dominant arm/hand, or utilize adaptive equipment in order to participate -- and perhaps gain a better understanding of challenges experienced by others.

The Ankeny Miracle Park project results from a partnership between the City of Ankeny, the Ankeny Kiwanis Club, and the Miracle Park Steering Committee.  The project site is adjacent to Terrace Elementary west of HyVee (near ball fields and sand volleyball courts in Hawkeye Park).  Construction (re-grading and soon, pouring of concrete!) is underway to provide a ball field where children with special needs will be able to play ball safely -- as early as Fall 2013.  For information, "like" the Ankeny Miracle Park page on Facebook, follow @AnkenyMiracle on Twitter, and see www.ankenymiracleleague.com.
