Ankeny Fire Department Focuses on Kitchen Fire Prevention

The City of Ankeny announced that the fire department will host an open house on Oct. 9.

How to cook dinner and avoid having Ankeny firefighters show up as unintended guests is just one thing Ankeny residents will learn at an annual open house at Fire Station No. 1 on Oct. 9.

The annual event set for 6 to 8 p.m. at 120 NW Ash Drive, will focus on preventing kitchen fires. Almost all kitchen fires are the result of unattended cooking, according to a release from the city.

Guests will also be able to tour the fire station, fire engines and ambulances and dress like a firefighter.
