Ankeny Parks and Rec Director Resigns Citing Health Issues

Todd Redenius, who first joined the city in 2005, resigned Monday with no notice.

Ankeny Parks and Recreation Director Todd Redenius submitted a letter of resignation Monday citing health and personal issues, the Des Moines Register reports.

Redenius’ resignation was effective Monday, said Deb Dyar, public relations officer for the city. Recreation Supervisor Nick Lenox was placed as the interim director on Tuesday, the newspaper said.

Redenius had been employed with the city of Ankeny since January 2005, and his annual salary was $109,671. He could not be reached for comment by the Register.

Less than two years ago Redenius resigned his position in July 2011 after he was charged with an OWI and pleaded guilty to the charge two months later. He was rehired in September 2011.

“Resigning my position as parks and recreation director was a very difficult decision,” Redenius said when he returned to the Ankeny job. “However, that decision afforded me time to do a personal and professional inventory and I look forward to again leading an outstanding parks and recreation department in a progressive community. It is great to be back and I am grateful for the opportunity provided.”
