Ankeny School Board Election, DMACC Levy Vote Tuesday

Ankeny residents will be asked to elect three school board members, one person to DMACC's board of directors and asked two ballot questions regarding DMACC.

Residents of the Ankeny Community School District will be voting Tuesday to elect three people to the School Board and to decide on two ballot questions regarding DMACC.

Incumbents, Pat Cahill, Todd Shafer and George Tracy and challenger Justine Peebles are on the ballot for three, four-year seats.

Residents will also be asked to vote to fill a vacancy for Des Moines Area Community College Director District #6. Carl Metzger is the only person listed on the ballot.

DMACC PUBLIC MEASURE A

SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED? DMACC Equipment Levy: “Shall the Board of Directors of the Des Moines Area Community College (Merged Area XI) in the Counties of Adair, Audubon, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Shelby, Story, and Warren, State of Iowa, cause to continue to be levied an additional tax not exceeding six cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for an additional period of ten years beginning with the tax levy to be made for collection in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015, for the purposes of program sharing between community colleges or for the purchase of instructional equipment of the Des Moines Area Community College.”

DMACC PUBLIC MEASURE B

SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED? DMACC Facilities Levy: “Shall the Board of Directors of the Des Moines Area Community College (Merged Area XI) in the Counties of Adair, Audubon, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Shelby, Story, and Warren, State of Iowa, cause to continue to be levied a tax not exceeding twenty and one-fourth

(20 1/4) cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for an additional period of ten (10) consecutive years beginning with the tax levy to be made for collection in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015, to be used for any one or more of the following purposes: for the purchase of grounds, construction of buildings, payment of debts contracted for the construction of buildings, purchase of buildings and equipment for buildings, and the acquisition of libraries; for the purpose of paying costs of utilities; and for the purpose of maintaining, remodeling, improving, or expanding the Des Moines Area Community College (Merged Area XI); or for such other purposes as authorized by law, all as provided in Chapter 260C, Section 22 of the Code of Iowa.”


People who have not registered to vote can still vote on Election Day, Sept. 10 by showing up in their polling places with an ID and proof of residency. People need a picture ID, such as a valid driver's license, and proof of address. If their address is on the ID that's fine otherwise people should bring a utility bill, lease, or a bank statement with their current address.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Polling locations are at the bottom of this story.
