Ankeny School Board Picks New Leaders

Todd Shafer will serve as the board's president.

The Ankeny School Board picked new leaders this week, the Des Moines Register reports.

Todd Shafer replaces Pat Cahill as the new president.

Mike Rooney will serve as vice president.

Shafer received the second highest number of votes in a recent school board election, according to unofficial results provided by the Polk County Auditor's Office.

Shafer, Cahill and a third incumbent, Geroge Tracy were re-elected to the board on Sept. 10.

Shafer received 1,326 votes, Cahill received 1,355 and Tracy received 1,212.

The board unanimously approved Shafer's appointment 6 to 0. Shafer will take over as president at the next board meeting.

And Rooney was approved as vice president 5 to 1, according to board briefs posted on the Ankeny School District's website.

The board also heard a report that improvements to the Northview Middle School are expected to cost more than $24 million, board briefs stated.
