Tailgating Now Allowed at High School Football Games, but Not Without Rules

While it will be allowed, Ankeny school board members set a few rules to those who plan to take part in pre-game festivities.

A new Ankeny school board policy gives the thumbs up to tailgating at high school football games.

But the policy is not without rules.

According to the Des Moines Register, the board approved the final reading of the new policies Monday. Board President Pat Cahill told the Register the district’s policy committee established rules on tailgating because of repeated requests to do so.

Anyone will be allowed to tailgate prior to football games, including those from visiting teams, the Register reported. Children and students will require adult supervision, and no alcohol or tobacco is allowed.

The board also approved other new policies during the meeting, the article said, including an amendment to the school's bullying policy and guidelines for community fundraising.
