Mark Your Calendars: Get Your Play On at Ankeny's All-City Play Day

The annual event will take place Wednesday, July 10, and Ankeny's Hawkeye and Wagner parks.

From the city of Ankeny:

Whether up in the air or down in the grass, there will be plenty of play in between when Ankeny hosts its Sixth Annual “All-City Play Day” on Wednesday, July 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Hawkeye and Wagner Parks will become the city’s playground with a mix of over 20 activity stations for play-minded people of any age. Choose from activities l
ike our big wheel races, pickle ball, a dunk tank, and many more. The best part? Admission is free, and no registration is necessary.

“Play Day has become an Ankeny institution, and one of our most successful and well-attended events,” said Ankeny Mayor Gary Lorenz. “Being active and engaging in fun and healthy activities is important to our residents and critical to living a healthy lifestyle.”

Last year’s event drew over 2,000 participants for a day of free unstructured play.

To demonstrate Ankeny’s ongoing commitment to Ankeny All-City Play Day and the City’s designation as a Playful City USA, Play Day has a brand new look this year.

“We hope Ankeny residents embrace the new logo,” said Deb Dyar, communications officer. “We believe its colorful, fun design better reflects the spirit of All City Play Day and encourages people to join us for a day of fun.”

The logo was created by Communications Intern Whitley Kemble. Whitley is an Iowa State University student working toward a Master of Fine Arts in graphic design.
