Ankeny Churches Give Joint Donation to Miracle Park Project

Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Iowa Knights of Columbus joined together to make the donation.

The Ankeny Miracle Park project has received a collaborative donation from three local church groups.

Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Iowa Knights of Columbus joined together to make a donation to the Miracle League field and all-inclusive playground, which broke ground in Ankeny last year.

The following was included in a release sent by the city of Ankeny, detailing the amounts of the donations and how the groups raised the money for the project:

Msgr. J.M. Hanson, Knights of Columbus Council 5038, based at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny was approached in September 2012 to host a presentation at their October 2012 meeting concerning the Ankeny Miracle League Field and All-Inclusive Playground. In January 2013, Grand Knight Ric Schuett challenged his fellow Brother Knights to raise $1,000 by encouraging twenty of them to step up and donate $50 each. This challenge raised $3,150. Additional funds of $1,250 were raised by Ankeny's Father Richard E. Gubbels, Knights of Columbus Council 15603, and its home parish Saint Luke the Evangelist.

On May 19, 2013 the Iowa Knights of Columbus made a donation of $3,150 from its People with Intellectual Disabilities Fund to the Ankeny Miracle League Field & All-Inclusive Playground. The total amount raised was $7,550 by the two Ankeny Knight's councils and the state Knight's that partially matched the donations.

The Ankeny Miracle Park Project is being led by the Ankeny Kiwanis Club and City of Ankeny. Fundraising efforts began in January 2012 with a goal of $1.2 million. With this contribution, the total money raised thus far is $1,092,000.
