Miracle League Angels Needed

Ankeny's Miracle League seeking volunteers for fall season.

The Ankeny Miracle League and All-Inclusive Playground Project isn't ready for play, quite yet, but Angels in the Outfield can already sign up to volunteer for the coming co-ed ball season.

Hundreds of volunteers will be needed to assist Miracle League players bat and maneuver the bases this fall.

Construction on the field and inclusive play structure began in the fall of 2012. Volunteers are currently working on ground and utility work before the concrete and the field surface can be poured. A concession stand will also be built during the summer months, according to a release from the City of Ankeny.

The field needs another $87,000 to meet the $1.2 million fund raising goal. Once complete, the park will serve 3,500 special needs children in Polk, Boone, Dallas and Story counties. The Miracle League is open to all children with disabilities between the ages of 5 to 18 years of age. The inclusive play structure will also be available to Ankeny's 800 disabled school children thanks a special partnership.
