Kelli Sly, 23, had been battling depression and suicidal thoughts in the days leading up to the killing of her son and her subsequent suicide over the weekend.
The 37-year-old Ankeny man was arrested after he allegedly robbed a Des Moines Kum & Go, as well as a Kum & Go in Ankeny, by brandishing a kitchen knife and threatening to stab the store clerk.
During his arrest, the 48-year-old allegedly became aggressive, stomping on the arresting officer's foot and threatening to kill him.
