Ankeny residents turned out in droves Thursday night to sample some of the best of what the community has to offer. The second annual Taste Ankeny, Experience Ankeny was held Thursday night at the FFA Enrichment Center. Fifty-five food and product vendors were on hand at the event, which was organized by the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce.

In case you want to know a little bit more about what the Ankeny business community has to offer, you don't want to miss the second annual Taste Ankeny, Experience Ankeny event this Thursday. The event, organized by the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held Nov. 1 from 5-8 p.m. at the FFA Enrichment Center. The event will feature 55 local food and product vendors and is open to the public. "This is a great, family friendly event," said Hilary Dunn, events coordinator with the Ankeny Chamber. "It's good for people who are new to the community and want to try a multitude of different restaurants in one place to find their new favorite." Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The Chamber says their presentation will help business owners and employers "apply themselves and get the most out of their Chamber membership." The lunch is free but the Chamber is requesting that you register so they can get a head count.

There is no bigger event in Ankeny than SummerFest. The four-day festival sponsored by the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce is a whirl of bands, parades, competitions — from the Bill Riley State Fair Talent Show to Miss 16 Ankeny to Ankeny Idol — to food. Former residents converge on their old stomping grounds, reconnect with family and friends and zip from one venue to the next. This year the event starts June 12 and wraps up June 15. If you’re an Ankeny Chamber member, there’s a good chance you’ve met Amanda Petersen. Whether it’s attending a ribbon cutting, being a part of an event planning committee or enjoying the company of others at a Business After Hours events, Petersen has found her place in the Ankeny community through her involvement in Chamber events. And now, her knack for making others feel welcome has been recognized.
