'The Amorous Ambassador' to Debut This Weekend at Ankeny Community Theatre

The production – a sequel to "The Sensuous Senator" – opens April 5 and runs through April 21.

Four years ago, Ankeny Community Theatre entertained audiences with the hit show The Sensuous Senator. Now, the troupe is preparing to delight audiences with the hilarious sequel, The Amorous Ambassador. Harry is up to his old shenanigans again but this time as the Ambassador to Great Britain. Harry, wife Lois and daughter Debbie are each planning to have the county house to themselves for the weekend for a romantic rendezvous. Their butler, Perkins, is reluctantly drawn into the plans as each seeks his assurances of absolute discretion as they plot their love affairs. What follows is a case of mistaken identities, indiscretions and attempted infidelities. The Amorous Ambassador opens April 5 and runs through April 21. Friday and Saturday …

Ankeny Community Theatre Production Continues This Weekend: This and More in Ankeny's Five Things for Friday

Here's what is going on in Ankeny today and other tidbits for Friday, Aug. 17.

1) Take the Little Ones to Tot Time Tot Time is back at Kirkendall Public Library. Tot Time is a time set aside for kids and moms and other caregivers to gather, play and get to know one another.  The event is held in the library meeting room and begins at 9:30 a.m. 2) Catch ACT's Production of 'It Runs In The Family' Catch the second weekend of showings of the Ankeny Community Theatre's production of "It Runs In The Family." The show continues through Sunday, Aug. 26. ENCORE: Last Chance This Weekend to Catch Ankeny Community Theatre's 'Father of the Bride'

ACT performers will bring the 1950s movie to life on stage starting tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Showgoers can expect a little drama and seriousness mixed with a lot of comedy. The show concludes Sunday with a 2 p.m. matinee.

Ankeny Theatre Production Pays Off With Twisted Murder Mystery

The Ankeny Community Theatre's performance of "Dead Giveaway" will debut Friday night at 7:30. The show runs each weekend through Oct. 16.

If you like a story with a lot of twists and an ending you never saw coming, the Ankeny Community Theatre has just the story for you. On Friday at 7:30 p.m., the theater will give its debut performance of “Dead Giveaway,” a play written by Robert Cook. Director Harold Mosier said the play, which kicks off ACT’s 30th season, is a murder mystery mixed with a bit of unintentional humor. “The play is quite funny at times – no one intended it to be funny, but is,” Mosier said. “It’s tight suspense – people who can pick a mystery apart will not figure this one out.” The cast of “Dead Giveaway” will hold performances each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 16. Unpredictable Comedy 'Play On!' Premieres Friday

The Ankeny Community Theatre will perform the popular "play within a play" comedy this weekend. Friday night is the play's debut.

What do you get when you have a theater troupe preparing to put on a play, a script that's constantly in revision and troublesome, unpredictable props? You have a tasty recipe for a laugh-out-loud comedy.  The complete cast and crew of the Ankeny Community Theatre production "Play On!" will debut in front of their first audience on Friday night. Barb Wagner, the show's director, describes it as a "play within a play." The comedy was penned by the late playwright Rick Abbot.
