Tour Ankeny Police Department Tuesday

Ankeny Police celebrate police week with guided tours of department.

Each tour is expected to last about 30 minutes. There will also be a display of police vehicles and officers will be present to answer questions, according to a release from the city. The week of May 12-18 has been designated as National Police Week across the country. Ankeny Man Sentenced for Stabbing Former Girlfriend

The couple's three children were home when the attack happened. Their mother tells KCCI that her 3-year-old saved her life.

An Ankeny man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Wednesday for stabbing his former girlfriend while their three young children were at home. Michael Stewart was sentenced in a Polk County courtroom Wednesday morning on charges of attempted murder, third-degree sexual abuse, willful injury and going armed with intent, according to KCCI.com. Ankeny police said Nicole Ague was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, Michael Stewart, who stabbed her multiple times, including once in the neck, in October of 2011. The incident occurred while their three children — ages 7, 4 and 3 — were home.
