Committee is searching for people interested in performing.
From a Press Release Ankeny's summer celebration, SummerFest, announced this week that it will add a community stage to its July festivities. Now they just need some people to perform on it. They SummerFest Events Committee is looking for a variety of performers including singers and dancers. The Ankeny SummerFest Events Committee members said the stage's addition will meet goals of diversifying SummerFest events. “Hosting a Community Stage goes hand in hand with that goal and we are excited to provide this opportunity to the talented performers of our community,” said Todd Wehr, Co-Chair of the SummerFest Events Committee. Ankeny SummerFest 2012 concludes today with tons of activities for the entire family. To help make things easy for you, here's the schedule of events for Sunday, July 15. A majority of these events occur at Prairie Ridge Sports Complex, located at 1315 N.W. State St. Locations will be noted accordingly. Ankeny kids paddled, sunk or swam their way through the finish line Saturday during Ankeny SummerFest's annual cardboard boat regatta. Entrants and spectators alike braved the hot sun to watch the competition, which featured several different age category and a wide variety of cardboard boats. The 15th annual event was held at Northview Lake, located at Prairie Ridge Sports Complex in Ankeny. The challenge was to design and build a person-powered corrugated cardboard boat that was capable of racing or at least floating.

A variety of youth competed in the Bill Riley talent competition Friday night at Ankeny SummerFest. The event serves as a qualifying round for the Bill Riley State Fair Talent Show, which will be held next month. The annual Ankeny SummerFest Kiddie Parade drew a wide variety of creative costumes and floats to Ankeny's Southwest School Street Friday night. The parade, sponsored by Ankeny Children's Dental, started in front of the Neveln Center. Kids ages 1 to 12 were encouraged to dress up and show off their costumes and floats in front of the crowd. Awards were given in the following categories: walkers, bikes, and wagons.

Ankeny's Big Thing — SummerFest 2012 — is underway at the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex, with a nice — but not overwhelming crowd — already hitting the booths, rides, food and, we presume, the beer tent.
