Ankeny Eatery, Sports Bar Now Serves Up Breakfast on the Weekends

You go there for pizza, beer and to watch the game, but now you can go there for pancakes and bacon.

Benchwarmers, arguably one of the more popular local spots in Ankeny for both food and libations, is now serving up a menu to appeal to an earlier rising crowd. The restaurant and sports bar is now offering a full breakfast menu on the weekends, said owner Marcus Pitts. The menu offers selections including the "All-Star Breakfast", a breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, and breakfast pizza. Several items can also be ordered a la carté. Breakfast hours are Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to noon. Benchwarmers reopened in July 2011. The lunch and dinner menu is an eclectic mix of the classics like pizza and homemade cavatelli, as well as some lighter fare likes salads and wraps. Ankeny Sweet Spot Takes 'Topped' Honors in Readers' Choice Contest

After two weeks of voting, we have a winner in our Readers' Choice contest for favorite Ankeny breakfast spot.

When it comes to picking their favorite breakfast spot, Ankeny residents definitely have a sweet tooth. After two weeks of voting, we have a winner for the best place in Ankeny to start your morning off right. Congratulations to Topped Doughnuts, the winner of our fifth local Readers’ Choice contest. When the contest closed at noon Sunday, Topped Doughnuts was the clear winner with 60 votes, or 36 percent of the vote. In total, 165 votes were cast over the duration of the contest. READERS' CHOICE: Only a Few Hours Left to Vote for Your Favorite Ankeny Breakfast Spot

In our fifth local Readers' Choice contest and in honor of Mother's Day, we're asking Ankeny residents to vote for their favorite place to grab coffee, breakfast or brunch.

As our contest in which we asked readers to choose their favorite breakfast spot in Ankeny draws to close, Topped Doughnuts is still on top with 38 percent of the vote. Readers have until 12 p.m. Sunday to vote. The winner will be announced later that day. Close behind Topped Doughnuts are CJ's Bagels with 20 percent of the vote, followed by Ankeny Café with 18 percent of the vote. For those of you who haven't voted yet, channel your inner breakfast-eater and cast your vote in our Readers’ Choice contest. I just for the first time tried Topped Donuts and it is AMAZING! I had heard about them since they opened, but I have two food allergic children that make it tough to eat out anywhere and all donuts are off limits in our house. I plan on heading back there over memorial day weekend to sample another while my family is out of town without me! :)   more ›
