Seven of my generations have lived in Ankeny and three of my great grandchildren, the sixth generation, are attending the Ankeny School System. My great grandfather, L. D. Weinhart, was mayor of this town when the first paved road connecting Ankeny with Des Moines was opened. My grandfather, Joe Lawson, was the only police officer in the early 40's. My Aunt Bertha was the first telephone operator, Aunt Josie taught in a small school north of Ankeny, my grandmother and mother were born in the city of Ankeny. My Uncle Theodore built a part for the Maytag washing machine.
