Two Des Moines area women face felony robbery charges for allegedly stealing a cart full of groceries from an Ankeny Hy-Vee about 9:45 a.m. Sunday and using mace to get away, according to Ankeny Police.

Calleus Orr, 41, of West Des Moines and Tessa Davis, 34, of Des Moines were both charged with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison after Iowa State Patrol stopped them in their vehicle shortly after leaving the store.

A Hy-Vee employee saw Davis and Orr pushing a cart full of “un-sacked” groceries toward a vehicle and asked the women for a receipt, according to a release from the Ankeny Police Department. During the conversation, Davis sprayed the employee in the face and both women hopped into a blue Volkswagon Jetta and drove off, the release said.

An Iowa State Patrolman stopped their vehicle at NW 2nd Avenue and Broadway, police said. The women were accused of stealing about $900 worth of groceries, a release from the Ankeny Police Department said. Police said items stolen included: meat, shrimp and cosmetics.
