WATCH: Police Nab 13-Year-Old for Drunken Driving After Chase in Grandma's Car

Things took an unexpected turn for Ankeny Police officers.

It wasn't the expected unpredictability of a car chase. Rather, it was what happened after.

Police dashboard video shows the vehicle swerving, speeding through neighborhoods and plowing through barricades. The chase stopped when the car crashed into a tree and a young boy climbed out of the driver's seat with his hands high above his head in surrender.

KCCI reports it was a 13-year-old Ankeny boy out for a drive in grandma's car without permission. He told police he had been drinking and was headed over to a friend's house, according to the report.

"My initial thought was this boy can't weigh more than 70 pounds soaking wet, so it was quite a shock," Sgt. Robert Kovacs of the Ankeny Police Department told KCCI.

The boy, who Patch is not naming, faces for charges including drunken driving, eluding police, reckless driving and driving without a license.
