New Ankeny Girls Basketball Coach Calls It Quits Before First Game

Kelsey Bolte was hired recently to take the place of Scott DeJong, who is moving to Ankeny Centennial next season.

Kelsey Bolte, who was slated to replace Scott DeJong as head coach of the Ankeny girls basketball team for the 2013-14 season, has stepped down from the position.

The Des Moines Register reported over the weekend that a source close to Bolte confirmed she was quitting. The Register could not reach Bolte or Ankeny Athletics Director Brent Buttjer for comment.

Bolte, a former Iowa State basketball player, was hired this spring to replace DeJong, who will move to Ankeny Centennial next year to be the head coach of its girls basketball team.

Bolte was an honorable mention Associated Press all-American at Iowa State in 2011, and she helped the Cyclones to four NCAA Tournament appearances before finishing her career with 1,639 points, sixth on the school's all-time list, the Register reported in May.
