Patch Picks: Five Places to Watch the Game

Cheering on your favorite sports teams just isn't the same when doing it from home. Drink, eat and yell at the screen with fellow sports fanatics at any of these popular hangouts.

When you can’t be there to watch your favorite game in person, the next best thing is to be at your favorite watering hole surrounded by fellow fanatics who can cheer or cry right along with you. 

Whether its college football or your favorite NFL team, head to any of these hangouts for all the big games shown on even bigger screens.

1. : DirectTV Network Sports plays on 18 TVs at this 1810 S.W. White Birch Circle location, featuring coverage of NFL, NBA, MLB, the Big Ten, NASCAR and other sports.  Weekend game day specials offer beer and wing discounts, and a full restaurant menu is available for both lunch and dinner.  

2. : If you're looking for Guinness and Fat Tire on tap, this is your spot.  Five big screen TVs are located throughout this 605 N. Ankeny Blvd location.  Expect a crowd full of regulars.

3. : Happy hour is offered every day from 3-6 p.m, boasting drink specials and half-priced appetizers.  Beer and cocktail specials are also offered during NFL, Hawkeye and Cyclone football games.  Win prizes by betting on Monday Night Football games which you can watch on one of the big screen TVs.  Tonic is located at 2785 N. Ankeny Blvd.

4. : This national chain, located at 1690 S.E. Delaware Ave., offers a plethora of televisions for your sports-viewing pleasure. Although wings are their specialty, you can find a full food menu with a variety of other options.  A full bar is available and B-Dubs is open for lunch and dinner seven days per week.

5. : Although this 20-year-old spot closed down for a few months last fall, it re-opened in July under new ownership featuring a new look inside.  While the look inside may have changed, the address hasn’t and you can find it 705 S. Ankeny Blvd.  Catch a game while enjoying Benchwarmer's numerous drink and food specials, including Bloody Marys, $3 mimosas and wings.
