Ankeny School Board Candidate Forum Canceled

An Ankeny School Board candidate forum for the Sept. 10 board election has been canceled due to conflicts and will be replaced with a questionnaire.

All candidates will be asked to fill out and return the form for public dissemination by Sept. 4, according to the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce.

The seats of Pat Cahill, George Tracy and Todd Shafer are all up for election. All incumbents will be on the ballot along with one challenger, Justine Peebles.

The Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce had arranged a candidate forum for 7 p.m., Sept. 5.

Peebles said she was available on the original date set by the chamber.

However, a consensus could not be reached between the four school board candidates on a time and date for the public forum, a letter from the chamber reads.

“The Committee will send out a questionnaire consisting of six questions by the end of the day on August 30, 2013.  We would ask that you return the answered questionnaire to the Chamber by the end of the day on September 4, 2013.  On September 5, the Chamber will publish the answers it receives from the candidates and disseminate them to our membership and the public,” the chamber letter states.
