Trial Date Set for Father Who Shot, Killed Daughter

Scott Hazelbaker, 51, is accused of killing his daughter in an accidental shooting June 14.

An Ankeny man charged with involuntary manslaughter for accidentally shooting his daughter in June is scheduled to go to trial in September, according to an article in the Des Moines Register.

Scott Hazelbaker, 51, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault causing serious injury. He told police that he didn't know his handgun was loaded when he pointed it at his 18-year-old daughter Emily Hazelbaker and pulled the trigger.

A jury trial has been set for Sept. 30, according to the Register.

Hazelbaker graduated from South East Polk High School and was studying at DMACC to become a dental hygienist, according to an obituary.
